car camping gear lists

Second hand car recommendations wanted?
I’m after a new (to me) car.
I’ve got up to £8k to play with but would ideally like to spend up to ~£5k (I have other things I’d like to buy but I’m prepared to splash it all on the ‘one’ if reqd). I’d like one with less than 60,000 miles.
I work mostly from home (so good mpg is not at the top of the list) but occasionally have to visit client sites so it must be comfortable on long journeys. At the weekend they’ll be me, the mrs & 2 kids in it, sometimes our camping gear & maybe a trailer/roof rack.
I fancy an estate. I’d like it to be fast & fun to drive (& safe). The sensible bit of me says get a Laguna diesel, the not so sensible bit says get a Mitsu Legnum VR4.
Any other suggestions ??
TIA
Paddy
I’m in the UK (in Manchester). Anything better than 25mpg is acceptable as my mileage will not be huge.
I wouldn’t honestly recommend a Laguna, they,re not the most reliable of cars, particularly the electrics. I don’t know much about a Mitsubishi Legnum, are you in the UK? If so, you may have problems getting it serviced.
I’d go for a Volvo V70, which is a brilliant, safe, nice to drive family car, huge boot, and can be had with a powerful turbo engine if speed is more important than mpg. Also maybe consider a Subaru Legacy estate ( bigger than Impreza, less likely to have been abused), a Passat estate, or even a Mondeo.

Car Camping : 0595378250 $13.91 Hunter Thompson meets Bill Bryson in this hilarious narrative of travels throughout the Southwest. From San Francisco to Joshua Tree, Moab to Telluride, Sundeen flips eggs, pops pills, falls in love, leads rafting trips, and gets arrested for a breadstick theft. Line drawings throughout.Hunter S. Thompson meets Bill Bryson in this hilarious narrative of travels throughout the Southwest.pHe’s like Huckleberry Finn.pSort of.pHe’s a twenty-two-year-old housepainter living at his parents’ house in Southern California, across a four-lane street from a gated subdivision. Now this suburban innocent is striking out on the only type of adventure he can afford: he’s getting into his station wagon and going camping in the desert.pJoin Mark Sundeen on his rumble-tumble journey across the Southwest, and find that the mythical home of Butch Cassidy, Chief Cochise, and Major John Wesley Powell has been transformed into something entirely strange yet unexpectedly familiar. It’s a new West of low-rent trailer parks and high-dollar houseboats, of hot-springs singles scenes and beachfront ghost towns; a haven for pot growers and junk collectors, homeless river guides and hapless soul-searchers, for sun-beat old-timers chewing the cud of the land and survivalist teenagers hiding out from the Man. It’s a place far from the America you thought you lived in, but close enough to drive to in your car.pCar Camping is a modern-day western adventure in the spirit of Mark Twain and Jack London, and you’re invited to come along.quoteblockquoteremark?Car Camping/iis a wonder of a book, a true joy to experience. Mark Sundeen’s prose is sparse yet the images he creates are alive and infinite. The narrator’s specialty is having adventures and we are enveloped and swept up by these adventures and become an integral part of them and we too become adventurers. Mark Sundeen is a stunningly wonderful writer. This is a book to be savored and remembered.?/remarkdiv align=rightby–H@+Ñë…¸Rÿ¾Úð |
