Our first walk in Scotland will begin with the West Highland Way and link onto the Great Glen Way more about our kit after the jump…
End of term! woot!
Six weeks off, hurah! apologies to all the non teachers out there but this is compensation for the hours and hours of marking we slog through during the year.
Packed my bags….
Now I’m ready to rock and roll! I havn’t mentioned the cause of all the excitement so here it is:
I’m off to Scotland for a month!
Wendy and I are linking together the “West highland way”, the “Great Glen way” and a number of others to form a Scottish “Super-route”
More soon…
MacPac Glissade
The MacPac Glissade is nothing short of a beast!
I have been abusing my Glissade since heading out to New-Zealand at the start of the year and it is still in completely new condition. This is despite bushwhacking through jungle, falling down volcano sides, being thrown around on and off coaches, vans, trains and more.
It’s tough as old boots and I love it and if I ever have to replace it… I’ll certainly buy another.
The Pack comes in three different back lengths and each length is adjustable. A subtle point is that the back length of each strap is adjusted independant of the other. I guess this could be a pain for some but Since I knackered my shoulder a few years ago my right shoulder is slightly lower than my left. Normally I don’t notice but when carrying a big load I’ve noticed that I’m adjusting the straps to factor this in.
Good points - simple, clean design with little to snag or interfere with trekking. Tough material that has a good degree of water resistance. The Quantum harness is excellent for heavy loads as it allows the hips to move naturally whilst taking the load. I’ve recently done an 80 mile trip with 30 odd Kg of gear with no problems. Straps and hip-belt are very padded. Hip belt is removable in case you want to wear a harness with it!
Bad Points - Well, it’s a bit heavier than most of the other expensive packs out therebut then you’ll never have to worry about it.
