What qualities and characteristics I look for when shopping for a tent?

I love the countryside, but my poor old tent has been exhausted and it is time to buy a new one. There are more features available now, and I want to know what they're worth the extra money, and which only have to add more weight to my team. It was a little overwhelming shopping at Bass Pro Shop last weekend. Also, when is the best place to find a good deal on these stores? I just have a family of four, so that a large store but not necessary. Only one that is relativley simple to configure. Thanks for your input!

First, a marquee brand. Almost everyone I know who has purchased a tent from a discount store has had problems with it very soon. This is not only bad for the economy, but can ruin a camping trip. The tent is right for you will depend on their own needs and priorities. If you are camping car, you are likely to accept the weight and volume for a comfortable tent.
