Are there any smells or sounds that are riding repellent?
Going camping this weekend in a national park with wild horses. The animals have received a little aggressive in recent years to go after dinner at camp, even through a tent chewing despite the proximity of the campers. Is there anything I could use to help keep them away – the smells, sounds, etc. that is likely to avoid? (Also going to be very careful to keep all foods in refrigerators or other closed container of something hard – the horses have no food left on the picnic table or on paper or in bags shopping …)
Even "wild" horses tend to get used to humans relatively quickly. I have found are very skilled reading and we can tell if it is likely to be a threat or if we are more nervous than they are of us. My personal suggestion is that if you see the horses check your camp, on foot To them, shouting and waving his arms. Mabey throw a stone or two (make it count! Make sure you hit the lead horse!). That should get them moving away from you. If you have a decent sling, use too. Not cause any big damage, but certainly Sting! I also wondered how effective a paintball gun would discourage wildlife from approaching.
