The West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way

Our first walk in Scotland will begin with the West Highland Way and link onto the Great Glen Way more about our kit after the jump…

..SO you made it past the break and will be rewarded with the kitlist;

MacPac Glissade - my favourite backpack that coped so well with the conditions in NZ

Tempest 200 tent - Not the lightest or wizziest on the market but it’s light and has proved it’s worth in battle, again, in NZ and over the last few years.

Whisperlite International - A great stove that works, and works, and works….

Snowpeak titanium potset - 750ml and 1l pots as we’ll be cooking for 2 of us. In practical terms they come up somewhat smaller than their nominal sizes

Fuel: lots of it! - we’re going straight to inverness which means a good 2 weeks solid walking along the trail - we’ve probably got enough for a week and a bit - I’d rather be able to have a tea and carry a few extra grammes, than not.

Leki and Fizzik walking poles - I started walking with poles in NZ and haven’t looked back - the impact is much lower and my posture better for it.

Waterworks water filter - I know lots of people drink straight from the streams, I also know lots of people get ill from doing so so this is a must for me. Fully field serviceable and like all msr kit it’s tough as hell

First-Aid kit - I’m a bit concious of this - I could probably halve my load if I got rid of it but having had to use it seriously a few times and on one occasion having to fashion a sling out of an innertube as I had run out of triangular bandages I’m sticking with it!

Waterproofs and gaiters - If I take them I won’t need them, If I don’t then I’ll wish I had them - go figure.

Clothes - I’ve got too many.

Boots - Brasher telica boots which are simply awesome. A bit of a departure from their normal kit but simply fantastic!

Camera gear - I think I weighed it out at about 4KG worth of camera gear - not including tripod/monopod or the camera that wendy is taking - ouch!

Thermarest - not the lightest but i figure that where we’ll be wildcamping we might need a bit more comfort than a torso-length mat!

Exped ibis - This is my baby, the dady of waterproof, light, warm down sleeping bags. If I get bored I can use it as a stand-alone bivy with it’s store-sack as a bug net :)
On top of this there’s some other bits like spares but this is the bulk.

More later!
